Category:
Category III. Folk writing

Franciszka Ogonowska – poet and prose writer; her texts, published in e.g.  Twórczość Ludowa, document the daily life as well the rituals of the region (Dobużek Kolonia, Lubelskie Voivodeship, Zamojszczyzna / Zamość Land)

She has been writing down the human fates, stories and memories of the local rural life for the last forty years.

She meticulously notes down the ancient customs, legends, family histories and second-hand tales.

She writes poems about nature, passage of time and virtues that are close to the farmers’ ethos.

The past and the present clash in her lyric works: the world of her childhood means the closeness of nature and warm household, whereas today’s world is coldness, uniformity and dying traditions.

In her works she also writes about love, God, family and responsibility for the land.

She has brought out two volumes of poems and prose, and she has also been published in folk-themed and other anthologies.

The artist has been awarded at about a dozen national competitions, including multiple prizes at the Jan Pocek Contest.

She has always been close to her local homeland – Dobużek and to the land that she farmed with her own hands and then conveyed in literary form.
