Zespół Regionalny ‘Zbójnicek’ z Zębu (Regional Ensemble ‘Zbójnicek’ from Ząb) was founded in 1964 by Maria Stoch and has been continuously active for six decades. Today, it is made up of children, adolescents and adults – approximately 160 members in total.
Its repertoire consists of Highlander bandit dances (taniec zbójnicki), songs sung in a dialect and the music of Skalne Podhale in a style typical of the village of Ząb.
The ensemble has given concerts in about a dozen countries – from Norway to the Philippines – winning a plethora of prizes and honourable mentions.
The 60th anniversary in 2024 was celebrated by releasing a two-CD album and presenting archival recordings of Jan Stoch Gronkowion – a long-standing manager and the musical pillar of the ensemble.
Zbójnicek does not only cultivate dance, singing and music but also maintains the local style and passes on the tradition to the subsequent generations.
