Limanowski Dom Kultury

Year:
2025

Category:
Category VII. Honorable mention to institutions and nongovernmental organizations deserved in the field of safeguarding and popularization of folk culture

Limanowski Dom Kultury (Limanowa Community Centre) – organiser of the festival ‘Limanowska Słaza’, organiser of numerous intergenerational workshops and promoter of the folklore of the Lachy Limanowskie (Limanowa Lachs) (Limanowa, Małopolskie Voivodeship, Lachy Limanowskie / Limanowa Lachs)

For close to half a century, the Limanowski Dom Kultury has been active in the heart of the region of Beskid Wyspowy (Island Beskids) – at the border of the Lach and Highlander cultures. Its flagship is the festival ‘Limanowska Słaza’ – one of the foremost folk events in Poland, which in 2025 – on the strength of the decision made by the minister Hanna Wróblewska – was entered into the national register of good practices in protecting intangible heritage.

It housed children’s and adolescents’ theatres, showed ambitious films and its workshops for decades drew the local artists and creators.

Today, in its new seat, it teems with intergenerational workshops – from baking bread to weaving garlands. Its latest initiatives include the Limanowa Chamber Orchestra and the LimaNovum Choir with repertoire that encompasses both traditional and new compositions. In Limanowa, folklore is not a relic of the past – it is very much alive and proudly looks into the future.
