Category II. Master of Tradition
Franciszek Jesiak – singer, dancer and accordionist; a hero of the film Wesele w Krobi Starej (The Wedding in Krobia Stara), a co-creator of the festival ‘Tabor Wielkopolski’ and an active mentor of young musicians (Stara Krobia, Wielkopolskie Voivodeship, Biskupizna)
He was brought up in a world where the local traditions of podkoziołek and katarzynka as well as traditional wedding festivities were common events. Today he passes on this knowledge from his memory and heart. He played in the film titled Wesele w Krobi Starej, he teaches singing and dance at the ‘Tabor Wielkopolski’ festivals, he accompanies on his two-row accordion and advises on the making of Biskupizna-type pipes.
He still performs, records songs and supports younger generations in their learning of the local tradition. Although he tends to be called ‘the last man of Biskupizna’, he defiantly claims that he is doing all he can not to become the one, hoping that there will be future generations of genuine Biskupizna people.
